Grand Isle State Park is the most popular camping destination in Louisiana, and for good reason. This park has tons of campsites, beach camping options, and RV campgrounds, all located close to great saltwater fishing spots and swimming areas. For glampers, Bogue Chitto State Park boasts five elegant upland cabins that overlook a tall bluff. Chemin-A-Haut State Park also offers a number of vacation cabins complete with bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, screened porches for avoiding pesky mosquitos, and air conditioning. Chemin-A-Haut State Park is a particularly beautiful state park to choose as it sits on a high bluff over Bayou Bartholomew. You won’t get natural views like this elsewhere!

Things to Do in Louisiana

Louisiana is well-known for its huge breadth of outdoor activities, particularly in its many state parks. Visitors can enjoy everything from hiking to saltwater fishing. Over 15% of the state of Louisiana is covered in water, so you simply must give paddling or kayaking along the Gulf Coast or local bayous a try. Venice, Port Fourchon, Jean Lafitte, and Cocodrie are all top spots for public saltwater fishing. If you’re camping or glamping in Bogue Chitto State Park, try taking on the Gorge Run Trail. In Kisatchie National Forest, the Longleaf Vista Road to Backbone Trail is a less-trafficked hiking trail worth taking on.

Places to Visit in Louisiana

The tourist destinations in Louisiana are virtually endless, especially in the ever-vibrant and energetic New Orleans. But for those who want to experience rural wonders in this state, you have some options as well. Breaux Bridge is a small city near Lafayette that runs the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival in May. Covington is another excellent rural city that has a ton of historic streets and buildings, making it a perfect spot for a self-guided tour. For fishing enthusiasts, Grand Isle is a small fishing village located allong the Gulf of Mexico that offers gorgeous beaches and fishing opportunities.
